The Truth About Relationship OCD That No One Tells You

Relationship OCD

One of the myths is that Relationship OCD is identical to being doubtful about a relationship or a partner. As a matter of fact, everybody might wonder whether they fit well together once in a while, but Relationship OCD reaches much further. It generates compulsive thoughts and excessive anxiety of the relationship, which often leaves people with no alternative but to remain in a state of constant analysis. This is not healthy doubting, it is a mental illness that results in distress and impairment of normal life.

It does not imply that the relationship is failing

It is assumed that a person has Relationship OCD, this is a testament that the relationship is not healthy, and is doomed. This is far from true. It is a situation of intrusive thoughts, rather than the real quality of the bond. Relationship OCD may affect even individuals who have strong, loving, and stable relationships. The state of the relationship is not what causes false alarms but rather the disorder.

Obsessions Are Not an Indication of Nurturance

The other misconception is that the incessant reassurance-seeking, checking or analyzing emotions portrays the love or commitment of a person. As a matter of fact, these are anxiety-driven compulsions. They are not the good indicators of love but rather a factor to minimize fear and uncertainty. This circle serves to further weaken the order and it becomes difficult to find clarity or peace.

It Cannot Be Solved by Just Thinking Positive

It is believed that the Relationship OCD can be addressed through either disregarding the thoughts or being more confident. However, regrettably it is not that easy. Intrusive thoughts are unwelcome elements and the compulsive actions are difficult to manage without adequate advice. Professional assistance, including therapy, assists people to break the cycle instead of having to use willpower alone.

It Is Not About Lack of Love

One of the harmful myths is that individuals having Relationship OCD do not actually love their partner. As a matter of fact, the fear is usually present because they care so much and do not want to lose the relationship. The condition deceives the mind in the things that matter the most and this is one of the reasons why it is painful. There is no lack of love, but rather intrusive thoughts are taking over love.

Final Thoughts

The relationship OCD is misinterpreted as it disguises under the normal questions on love and compatibility. The myths complicate the awareness of people that it is a real condition. When we realize the distinction between natural doubts and obsessive fears, we can be able to offer compassion and clarity to the struggling. The acknowledgement of these truths would be the initial step to stigmatizing the breaking and supplying healthier relations.
